Weldco Heavy Industries a Division of McKay Metis Group (WHI) is a large steel fabrication and repair facility located in the Fort McKay Caribou Energy Park. Strategically positioned in the heart of Alberta's Oil Sands, WHI can effectively meet the requirements for large steel repair, assembly, and refurbishment in the industry.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about coordinating the safety function for our group.


We are looking for a Safety Coordinator on a

7 days on/ 7 days off,

12- hour day schedule.

Reporting to the Senior HSE Manager your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:



Ensure legislation and Company compliance by providing effective safety support and guidance. Develop WHI safety policies and procedures for incorporation into operational policies. Assist WHI in the development of company-specific safety procedures that ensure operation staff are aware, understand tactical compliance and program requirements. Assist WHI with the development /coordination of appropriate training programs necessary to ensure staff have the necessary knowledge to carry out their duties. Provide input to the WHI plans and directions and ensure an appropriate understanding of legislation requirements relating to the strategy or proposed implementation of new procedures or equipment. Extensive interaction with all personnel to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices. Accurately track and schedule equipment inspections Ensure effective coordination of the JOHSC. Ongoing completion of WHI hazard assessments, behaviour-based observations, inspections, and audits. Assist in workplace investigations. Assist the Senior HSE Manager with the annual COR Safety Audit, KPI tracking and ongoing statistical reporting. Conduct new hire orientations
Book and implement training courses on safety related subject matter. Coordinate and support injury care management.

Qualifications include:



Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff and leadership. Ability to present to large audiences in an engaging way. An active listener with a positive, results oriented attitude complimented by excellent communication skills. Proficiency in various computer programs including the ability to enter data. A demonstrated commitment to safety programs and policies. An In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, WCB policies and procedures and general knowledge of the Personal Information Protection Act are required. A minimum of three years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
NCSO designation Related post-secondary education, First Aid Certification and WHMIS TTT are preferred.
