Job Summary

The Safety Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring the company's operations meet all safety, regulatory, and compliance standards. This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe workplace, preventing incidents, and ensuring compliance with transportation, workplace safety, and government regulations.

Duties

Monitor and enforce compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations (e.g., DOT, NSC and federal laws). Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments on vehicles, facilities, and equipment. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions. Maintain accurate records of driver qualifications, training, hours of service (HOS), vehicle inspections, and compliance documentation. Provide safety training and orientation for drivers and staff, including defensive driving, workplace safety, and emergency procedures. Collaborate with operations and dispatch teams to ensure safe trip planning and adherence to compliance requirements. Stay updated on industry regulations and recommend updates to company policies as needed. Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies during audits, inspections, and investigations. Promote a culture of safety through continuous improvement and employee engagement.

Experience

Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Transportation, or related field (preferred). Knowledge of transportation safety regulations (DOT, NSC etc.). Minimum 2 years of experience in safety, compliance, or transportation industry. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement corrective measures. Proficiency in MS Office and compliance management software. Certification in Transportation Safety or Health & Safety (asset, not required).
