We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a Safety Asset Protection Advisor to join our Heffley Creek division, located in Kamloops, British Columbia. With approximately 250 employees, Heffley Creek Division produces plywood and veneer products, safely and sustainably while producing approximately 180 million square feet of plywood and 28 million square feet of veneer per year, for customers around the world so they can build their homes and their communities.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • An OHS Certificate or Diploma.
  • 3-5 years in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing or Forestry environment is a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and the Workers Compensation Act.
  • Ability to facilitate presentations in group settings.
  • Ability to apply Health and Safety Management System concepts approach.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Team player and ability to work with and through others at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent active listening.
  • Problem-solving and root cause identification.
  • Strong analytic and decision-making.
  • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Intermediate knowledge with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

In this role you will:
  • Report to the Plant Manager and leverage your effective communications and technical skills to coach and lead across all roles within the mill.
  • Be instrumental in cultivating and promoting a culture of safety, safeguarding our employees and our assets.
  • Support and advise Supervisors and Superintendents in managing day-to-day equipment processes, specific safety risks and incident investigations.
  • Use your OH&S knowledge to support safety initiatives, investigations and the joint health and safety committee.
  • Develop, manage, and administer divisional safety program elements, emergency response plan, fire safety plan.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations.
  • Identify opportunities to engage our workforce and help drive the business forward by encouraging team members to live and breathe our safety programs and work procedures.
  • Liaise with WorksafeBC, Technical Safety BC, Canadian RTC (Railway), and AON on Site Regulatory Compliance issues.
  • Coordinate all safety related training and certifications.
  • Facilitate safety audits and COR audits.
  • Facilitate and develop site specific safe work procedures.
  • Be the site administrator of the safety reporting program (CorePoint).
