Job Description


Environmental Remediation Management (ERM) nuclear safety analysts is responsible for supporting all the ERM operations and project from conceptual design, though operations and into decommissioning. A Safety Analyst supports the systematic identification of hazard for a facility/project and assesses the potential consequences to determine the risk. They document the analysis, in accordance with the program and regulations. For major changes/new nuclear facilities, document must be approved by the regulator.

DUTIES

  • Safety Analysis Document Preparation:
o Prepare high quality technical document which receive a high level of scrutiny
o Act as a technical reviewer for safety analysis documents
o Follow the program and associated CNSC regulations in preparing the documentation
  • Safety analysis support to projects, operations and decommissioning activates across CNL sites
o Provide guidance to Facility Authority/Projects with regards to safety and licencing requirements
o Review technical drawings/documents with a focus on impact to safety
o Prepare documentation to support projects/changes including planning, safety analysis and guidance
  • Support the safety analysis program
o Ensure documents prepared are in compliance with the program
o Support developing program documentation though document preparation, self-assessments, etc.
o Be involved with REGDOC, CSA, IAEA, ICRP and other agency updates that involve safety analysis
  • Systematic Identification of Hazards
o Engage with projects/facilities to identify hazards
o Lead hazard analysis meetings and document the outcomes
  • Dose consequence/Frequency estimation
o Use various tools to estimate the potential doses from events to workers, on-site and public
o Use various tools to estimate frequency of events to classify likelihood of occurrence
o Model short term and long term releases from facilities
o Verify other analysts calculations

QUALIFICATIONS
  • At minimum, a Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization
  • Significant scientific work experience in order to be regarded as a specialist. Preference for experience specifically related to safety analysis or in the nuclear field.
  • Fully developed knowledge of two or more of the following areas and a basic understanding of the remainder
o Design engineering process
o Technical writing and problem solving
o Hazard assessment techniques including HAZOP, FMEA, What-If, etc.
o Deterministic safety analysis methods
o Experience with mathematics to support Radiation Dose calculation, airborne release modelling, ground release modelling, etc.
  • Job/Industry Specific Knowledge:
o Regulatory framework governing Canadian nuclear industry
o Safety requirements for nuclear facilities
o Nuclear facility operations
o Decommissioning
o Radiological protection

Location:
