Contribute towards the future of the City of Edmonton roadways! As a Roadway Condition Evaluator, you will apply your technical condition survey skills to collect data critical to the pavement management program. You will succeed in this role if you can effectively categorize types of distresses, like working outside, and can apply your technical skills to support the work and your less experienced colleagues. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.
What will you do?
• Conduct roadway (roads, curbs and sidewalks) condition survey with a tablet or record on-site the condition data into a survey condition template
• Assist the Engineering Technologists in training others with the Roadway Condition Survey Programs
• Operate Pavement Condition Collecting Equipment including ARAN (automatic-road-analyzer) Van,or FWD (Falling Weight Deflectometer), and record condition data while conducting road condition testing
• Assist the Engineering Technologists to post-process pavement condition data from ARAN, FWD, and manual condition survey (tablets or survey condition sheets)
• Conduct Data Processing for Roughness and Rutting files from ARAN data files
• Assist with the QAQC of Condition Survey data using ARC GIS Pro
• Monitor/maintain all field equipment on a daily basis
• Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications :• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent or higher and post-secondary education with courses in Survey / Geomatics , or Engineering (Civil / Mechanical / Environmental / Electrical)
• Minimum 2 seasons of relevant Roadway Condition Assessment Survey experience, including identifying and assessing the condition of Pavement, Curbs and Sidewalks
Skills Required for Success:
• Thorough understanding of Sidewalk and Roadway Condition Survey Principles and Techniques
• Knowledge of and skills in the basic operation of Pavement Evaluation Testing Equipment such as ARAN Van, FWD, and minimum 6 months experience in Data Processing from ARAN Van Files using Wisecrax, and Provide leadership and coverage for Engineering Technologists in training new seasonal staff for Condition Survey. Program, and assist with other related duties such as QAQC, Special Projects, and Urgent VCI requests.
• Ability to interpret locations from neighbourhood maps, perform basic technical calculations and data entry (manual and digital) and use electronic handheld equipment

Asset:
• Processing Rutting / IRI Data Files
• Competency and familiarity with ARC GIS Pro and Survey 123 (Geomedia, FME, Field Maps)
Conditions of Employment:
• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Successful candidates must arrange their own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This will require business auto insurance
• Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
Work Environment:
• Ability to walk long distances (10-15 kilometres) for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions, and perform tasks accurately and efficiently alongside busy traffic
• This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
• The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Up to 1 temporary, full-time position for up to 10 months and 1 temporary, full-time position for up to 7.5 months in accordance with Article 18.02 of the Collective Agreement
