The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a
Roads Labour Foreperson 1
to fill a temporary full-time position. The Roads Labour Foreperson 1 coordinates personnel and light equipment or trucks, in order to complete assigned maintenance, light repairs or construction activities, within time schedules and required specifications and standards, with less responsibility and complexity than the Labour Foreperson 2. Supervise crew members and ensure that all reasonable safety precautions are followed.
Primary focus for this position will be on snow removal on sidewalks and trails; and snow removal equipment operation and maintenance during the Winter Shift.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Minimum of a Level One Certified Public Works Supervisor designation from the Canadian Public Works Association - Alberta Chapter would be an asset. Completion of Safety and First Aid courses.
Two years' experience in related maintenance, signage and pavement markings, light construction activities, or equivalent experience to provide knowledge of the uses of manpower, equipment and materials, and standard methods and techniques of maintenance.
Experience in the maintenance and repair of sidewalks, roads, lanes, pavement markings and bridges and the capabilities of related equipment.
Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver's License with a Q endorsement.
Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints and to complete various records.
Ability to use various tools (e.g. concrete tools, sledgehammer, level and measuring instruments.
Ability to acquire supervisory skills, to organize and coordinate personnel and equipment, to communicate clearly to crew members and to provide encouragement and discipline, as required.
Ability to respond courteously to public complaints (e.g. flooding lanes and properties).
Ability to exert moderate physical effort (e.g. lifting concrete forms and manhole covers)
Ability to work outside continuously in all types of weather and in conditions which may be muddy, noisy and disagreeable.
Ability to exercise care when working near traffic, near power lines, in ditches and to use appropriate safety equipment.
Ability to operate a personal computer using Microsoft Excel and Word software would be an asset.

Remuneration:
$35.15 to $37.22 per hour
Hours of Work:
Average of 80 hours (10 hour shifts) biweekly as per the winter shift adjustment scheduled is alternating shiftwork 24/7 from October through March. Occasional overtime as required.

The term of this position is anticipated to be from October 27, 2025 to March 27, 2026.
