Job Title: Educator (RN OR RPN) S tatus: Part-Time 0.8 FTE
Department: Nursing Reports to: General Manager
Location: Templemont Gardens Hours/Week: 30 hrs



POSITION SUMMARY:


Reporting to the General Manager, the Educator (RN or RPN) is responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive education program for employees. The Educator will ensure that all mandatory education elements identified by the organization are included in the annual education plan. Incorporate best practices and evidence-based standards into education, facilitate orientation and learning program, monitor and provide feedback on employees\xe2\x80\x99 performance, and evaluate effectiveness of clients\xe2\x80\x99 care delivered and address issues identified.



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):


  • Lead site IP&C program and all related audits and training

  • Participate in site OHS program and ensure compliancy in all aspects of OHS in line with AB regulation

  • Works with the Clinical Care Manager in meeting compliancy of all CCHSS and Accommodation Standard

  • Develop relationships within multi-disciplinary team in facility to identify and fill in educational gaps to ensure quality of care and service

  • Ability to have coaching conversations with employees to support mental health of employees, residents, and families

  • Accountable for practicing outstanding care and support to residents, resident families, team members and volunteers

  • Design, develop, and coordinate the delivery of Employee Development Programs to meet these needs

  • Develop and implement monthly education calendar for all fields and specialties

  • Ensure alignment of resident outcome and ongoing educational programs with staff learning needs

  • Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of Staff development Program against appropriate objectives and standards

  • Maintain all education records as it related to staff attendance and quality management activities for the site

  • Perform clinical teaching sessions on the units as needed

  • Responsible for teaching health and safety issues such as WHIMIS, lifts and transfer and back care

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with current CARNA registration

  • Mental health educator background, specifically experience with Harm Reduction programs will be considered an asset

  • Solid understanding of CCHSS and Accommodation Standards. Led or key participation in Accreditation process

  • Experience with commissioning a Supportive Living site is preferred

  • Experience with Point Click Care and RAI MDS 2.0 is an asset

  • Completion of a course in Adult Education will be considered an asset

  • Current (within 6 months) Criminal / Vulnerable Sector Screening.

WORKING CONDITIONS:



This industry requires empathy for and an understanding of the needs of seniors and requires a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check including a Criminal Background Check. This position is a fast-paced, challenging, working environment that provides services to seniors and other marginalized populations. The ability to deal with competing priorities and using one\xe2\x80\x99s professional discernment to understand where the focus needs to be when being pulled in several directions.
