About the Role

Corus\xe2\x80\x99 Legal, Regulatory and Governance team is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Rights Manager for Corus\xe2\x80\x99 content development, production and distribution businesses.
Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Head of Technology, Legal Operations and Rights Management, you will be a core member of Corus\xe2\x80\x99 rights management team, managing the analysis and tracking of rights owned or acquired by Corus and acting as a key advisor on rights to our content production, merchandising, and distribution teams, particularly for Nelvana, Corus\xe2\x80\x99 award-winning animation studio, and our Corus Studios international distribution business.

You\'ll be working on things like:

  • Review and analyze various inbound rights/content-related agreements (including underlying rights, option/development, composer, co-production and distribution rights agreements) to update and maintain accurate rights information in Nelvana\xe2\x80\x99s rights management system (Jaguar)
  • Review, generate and maintain documentation of chain of title for all new Nelvana properties
  • Provide conflict checks and availability reports with respect to Nelvana and Corus Studios titles to Sales executives
  • Work closely with Finance, Legal, Original Programming, Production Studio, and Sales to provide accurate and timely rights information to support Nelvana and Corus Studios\xe2\x80\x99 business activities
  • Ensure integrity of data within rights management systems to assist business with contractual compliance as well as meeting internal audit standards
  • Resolve issues and system errors as they relate to contracts, finance and downstream systems as they arise
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize processes and ensure efficient flow of information and speed to revenue
  • Special projects as needed/assigned by the Associate General Counsel

  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or college diploma, or relevant industry experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience working in rights management or business/legal affairs, preferably with experience at a production or distribution company or similar
  • Experience engaging with and interpreting production and distribution-related contracts, with a particular preference for those who are able to interpret and analyze media rights
  • Strong understanding of current media and content distribution platforms, media rights, and business models
  • Strong time management skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Mature and diplomatic
  • Service-oriented mindset and approach
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable learning new systems quickly
  • Comfortable with managing through change
  • A passion for innovation and continuous improvement
  • Collaborative, able to work cross-functionally with other teams effectively
