Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Manager of Catering Services the Food Retail Store Front Attendant will perform a comprehensive range of work duties, including, but not limited to, serving customers, taking customer orders, preparing, heating and packaging simple food items, taking customer payment, etc.
They will assist the Coordinator of the Food Services Training Program (FSTP) in ensuring all students are trained in the retail store front.
The Food Retail Store Front Attendant is a team-oriented person, responsible for building and fostering relationships, networking opportunities internally within The Ottawa Mission and externally within the community at large.
Major Responsibilities
Daily:
Taking customer orders, accepting payment and serving customers at food counters.
Prepare, heat, finish cooking and package simple food items.
Use a cash register to process customer orders, accept payment and give change.
Answer customer questions about menu items and serve customers at counters or buffet tables.
Preparing and serving food such as sandwiches, salads, pastries and beverages, including coffee-type drinks.
Clean, peel, slice and trim food items using manual and electric appliances.
Stock refrigerators, freezers, cupboards and sandwich bars.
Keep records of the quantities of food used
Perform required administrative duties, which includes processing, in a timely manner, required paperwork, and meeting all necessary deadlines.
Clean and sanitize kitchen areas including, work surfaces, cupboards and storage areas, as well as dispose of kitchen garbage
Work with the FSTP Coordinator, Manager and Assistant Manager of Catering Services to train the FSTP student and volunteers
Initiate daily concrete and measurable goals and objectives
Meet on a regular basis with the Manager, Assistant Manager of Catering Services and the FSTP Coordinator to discuss operational issues
Ensure an atmosphere of mutual respect and positive working relationships among staff members, students, volunteers and customers
In collaboration with the Manager and Assistant Manager of Catering Services, suggest retail menus that will work for the store front
Ensure adherence to all Health & Safety policies and procedures and fulfill requirements for annual compliance training
Ensure all standards regarding hygienic food storage, preparation and serving are maintained in order to successfully meet all the requirements of inspections by the Ottawa Public Health and Long Term Care Branch
Other Requirements
Education:
Secondary School Diploma
Food Handler Certification
Valid 'G' Class Driver's License with clean abstract considered an asset
Experience:
Previous culinary experience in a cafe/restaurant with strong culinary production skills
Qualifications:
Excellent oral and written communication skills along with the ability to build relationships
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
