A&W Restaurants (Island Burgers Inc.) in Victoria, BC, is looking for a permanent full-time Assistant Manager to start immediately at our Shelbourne Street location. (3667 Shelbourne Street., Victoria, BC V8P 4H1)

Salary: $42,000 annual

ROLE

The Assistant Manager works together with the Manager, supervising overall shift and daily operations of the restaurant. The Assistant Manager is responsible for operating the restaurant according to A&W Standards, Provincial WCB, and Employment and Health regulations on a daily basis and would be able to continue smooth operations of the restaurant in the absence of the Manager. The Assistant Manger will be scheduled in positions, working \xe2\x80\x98hands-on\xe2\x80\x99 alongside the team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

• Balance key goals \xe2\x80\x93 high quality, speed of service and cost control through effective management of the operating system
• Maintains Provincial WCB and A&W standards daily; recognizes areas for improvement and acts where improvement is needed
• Schedules staff, including self, and assigns shift roles and responsibilities
• Knowledge of workplace climate goals and ensuring they are practiced daily

Human Resources

• Trains, develops, confronts poor performance
• Ensures staff safety and a healthy, motivating work environment applying daily workplace climate goals
• Ensures Employment regulations are maintained on a daily basis
• Documents critical incidents and reports them to key individuals

Financial

• Completes daily, weekly, and period accounting administration as directed by the manager
• Manages inventory control, ordering, cost control and weekly inventory counts as directed by the manager
• Applies cash policies and food cost management principles

Customers

• Ensures that cleanliness standards and safe food handling practices are met
• Ensures high level of service to guests through efficient preparation, stocking, and staff positioning
• Assists Manager with local store marketing
• Manages accidents or complaints, implementing service recovery program
• Ensures teams appearance is up to standard

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3 years experience in a restaurant supervisory role
• Secondary School Certificate
• Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership
• Expertise in all restaurant positions
• Complete knowledge of restaurant Operating Systems and Operating Standards
• High interest in developing others
• Ability to do accounting and manage administrative aspects of the operation

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Acceptable oral and written English communication skills
• Acceptable mathematical skills
• Ability to train and coach others in a \xe2\x80\x98hands-on\xe2\x80\x99 approach; imparting knowledge
• Competent in Microsoft 365 Business applications
• Ability to lead meetings
