Job Summary




Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), with accountability to the Research Manager, the RESPONDER Partnership Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management of a SSHRC-funded Partnership Grant which explores aid worker and peacekeeper-perpetrated sexual exploitation and abuse. The incumbent will provide leadership and expert level technical advice into the implementation and conduct of the project, including being responsible for the overall project plan and activities, staffing and training, and share financial accountability with the Research Manager. The incumbent will establish project priorities, ensure there is active communication with the Project Team, Project Partner Organizations, and various Project governing committees, and promote effective collaboration with the study investigators and trainees. The incumbent will present results, including preparing reports to the funder, preparing publications, developing scientific presentations for meetings and conferences, and presenting results in more innovative and non-traditional formats to maximize impact.




The schedule for this position may require the incumbent to work variable hours, including some evenings and weekends. Candidates must be willing and able to travel to support project implementation and partnership engagement.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



Apply proficient understanding of mixed-methods research methodology, data collection and analysis, to contribute to the oversight and conduct of the project. Develop, maintain and monitor a detailed project management timeline and task set; recommend and design research plans, and set priorities and project objectives. Manage the project budget and be responsible for monitoring and reporting, as per funder/institution guidelines, and in coordination with the Research Manager in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Ensure there is appropriate compliance with financial record keeping and reporting requirements; analyze information for budget evaluation. Support recruitment and engagement of external members of project governance committees Coordinate, write and submit Research Ethics Board applications. Develop and prepare project materials, including printed recruitment materials, and printed and online data collection forms. Ensure the research project runs in accordance with the research protocol, and keep track of the project according to the project timeline. Establish research schedules, monitor project progress, evaluate data, and make recommendations to resolve research problems and changes in procedures, where necessary. Report progress to the PI on a regular basis. Lead research project related meetings: prepare agendas, minutes, and other meeting materials. Ensure there is on-going and effective communication across all project stakeholders at all project sites and proactively identify and manage conflict. Manage and analyse data. Participate in dissemination of research project findings by: preparing, editing and reviewing manuscripts for publication; writing reports; and preparing academic presentations for conferences. Monitoring team progress to ensure deliverables are met. Develop staffing strategy, participate in staffing and hiring committees, provide recommendations into employee selection and trainee assignment. Plans, prioritizes and manages the work of employees, providing strategic and tactical advice, guidance and coaching. Identifies the need for staff resources, participates on staffing committees, and makes effective recommendations regarding employee selection. Manages performance by establishing performance standards, reviewing and evaluating performance and conducting formal performance reviews on an ongoing basis. Assesses staff training and development needs, and ensures that employees receive raining required to improve and sustain successful performance. Investigates, addresses and resolves employee/labour relations issues, including disciplinary matters. Makes decisions or effective recommendations on matters involving possible discipline, discharge and probationary termination. Continuously seek opportunities to celebrate team accomplishments and strengths and build team capability and effectiveness. Be knowledgeable of additional funding opportunities and support the PI in the development of additional research applications and grant proposals, as applicable. Undertake other duties as delegated in support of the successful conduct of the research project. Develop and implement community engagement activities to promote the RESPONDER project and support meaningful engagement of the RESPONDER project with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community partners. This includes but would not be limited to posting social media content, an alumni strategy, a newsletter, website creation, review and maintenance. Develop, create, and implement strategies and activities to achieve the objectives of the RESPONDER project, including producing and implementing external communications, and engagement and events planning. Manage the creation and execution of an overall plan for community outreach and engagement, including raising awareness about the RESPONDER project, and the development of engagement and partnership pathways for individuals, including students and alumni, and organizations that align with the RESPONDER project vision and mission. Oversee communications, marketing and engagement initiatives that will enhance the RESPONDER project's image and reputation, both nationally and internationally, as well as position the RESPONDER project as a leader on responder-perpetrated sexual exploitation and abuse.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, with strong consideration given to candidates holding a master's degree. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in high-level coordination of complex research projects. Preference will be given to applicants with community based, participatory research experience, or experience in working with international non-governmental organizations and coordinating work across a range of different countries and cultures. Experience in communications strategy development and implementation, project management, understanding of project management principles, practices, techniques and tools. Fluency in both English and French, preferred. Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Exceptional technical and scientific writing skills. Ability to translate research findings for diverse audiences, including through plain-language summaries, executive summaries, policy papers, infographics, and videos. Strong verbal communication skills, including a proven capacity to communicate clearly and effectively with community partners and people from various cultural backgrounds and nationalities. Proven ability to create and implement research projects with minimal supervision and guidance. Ability to work collaboratively with a range of research stakeholders. Ability to work cross-culturally, particularly in settings where infrastructure and resources may be limited as compared to Canada. Experience managing many different types of partners and data collection activities in different locations, with high attention to detail and data quality. Strong computer skills. Demonstrated technical proficiency, or ability to become proficient quickly in the use of multiple software programs, such as NVivo. Proven ability to work effectively as a team member, including when team members are located in diverse geographic locations. Demonstrated commitment to developing skills of entire team.


DECISION MAKING:



Ability to work independently and be self-directed within guidelines provided by the PI. Independently manage the day-to-day priorities in support of achieving overall project goals. Make decisions regarding research participant inclusion/exclusion. Assess best alternatives or a range of solutions to a given problem; identify potential risks and benefits of each. Collaborate with project PI and Queen's Environmental Health and Safety to evaluate risk and make decisions related to travel and activities in different project sites around the world. Determine best solution to administrative problems within guidelines, and determine if policy or procedure should be modified. Decide on how to best implement changes if necessary. Effectively answer questions regarding research project issues, or redirect inquiries if necessary. Determine whether a particular procedure falls well within ethical guidelines, and whether any other concessions could be made to minimize inconvenience to research participants. Efficiently respond to any event that may be considered an adverse event to be reported to an ethics board, and involve the PI and other stakeholders as appropriate Determine the best way to analyze and present data to meet the needs of the research project. Resolve problems as they arise and determine when to report on these actions to the PI. Oversee, delegate and assess the quality of work of junior staff and graduate students; identify possible staff performance and/or disciplinary issues to the PI. Make suggestions on data collection, presentation of results and coordination of activities. Evaluates job candidates and makes effective recommendations on suitable hires. Makes decisions and/or effective recommendations regarding transfers and promotions. Evaluates employee performance and decides on appropriate training or coaching to address lack of proficiency in carrying out responsibilities, or remedial action for staff disciplinary situations. Assesses investigation outcome of grievances and makes effective recommendations on appropriate course of action or next steps on grievances. Makes effective recommendations on level of discipline up to discharge and probationary termination.
