Position Scope:
Reporting to the House Supervisors, the Residential Counsellor is responsible to provide hands on care, guidance and support to the residents of the D3 Group Home, Small Option Group Homes, and the Supervised Living Program in accordance with the goals and objectives of the CACL Antigonish.
Duties/Responsibilities:
A.
Services:
The individual will be responsible for:
1. Program planning and implementation which shall include:
(a) Provision of supervision and support, as part of a team, to all individuals in the residence.
(b) Knowing and implementing each resident's I.P.P.
(c) Writing assessment, program and meetings as scheduled.
(d) Attending to the physical needs of the residents a required.
(e) Acting as an appropriate role model.
(f) Meeting the physical, emotional, and medical needs of the residents.
(g) Dispensing required medications as outlined in the medication policy.
(h) Ensuring safety to all residents and staff.
(i) Assist each resident to present themselves in the most positive manner possible to the community.
(j) Communicate effectively with all staff (verbal and written) and where applicable with family and other agencies.
(k) Cleaning and cooking for the houses and apartments.
2. Financial planning and monitoring which shall include:
(a) Assisting residents with their budgeting, banking and purchases according to each I.P.P.
(b) Maintaining accountability around groceries, supplies, petty cash and residents' funds.
(c) Assisting the Supervisors in maintaining appropriate inventory control.
3. Personal planning which shall include:
(a) Supervision of residents in-house and in the community, accompanying residents to medical appointments.
(b) Acquiring training to meet professional standards.
(c) Participating in residential staffing schedule.
4. Ensuring proper use of and maintenance of equipment, buildings, vehicles, property and other assets.
5. Performing other duties or special assignments as required by the Supervisors.
(B) Organizational:
The individual will be responsible for:
(a) Acting as liaison with the community in an appropriate manner.
(b) Attending staff meetings, conferences and participate in full as part of the team.
(c) Understanding and implementing all policies and procedures of the Board and legislative requirements of the Provincial Government.
(C) Recreation:
The individual will be responsible for:
(a) Developing and implementing recreation programs based on the individual interests of the residents.
(b) Use the existing programs in the community by assessing the necessary support to satisfy "normalization" and "inclusiveness" demands.
(D) Special Factors for Consideration:
(a) Shift work and/or weekend work is part of the schedule. Our houses are "24/7 365 days a year".
(b) Staff are expected to take part in meal time since meals, preparation and socialization skills are part of the program.
(c) Participation in ongoing upgrading and training is required.
(d) Some sleep over duties may be expected.
(E) Requirements:
(a) - High school diploma or equivalent
(b) - Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
(c) - Ability to lift and transfer individuals as needed
(d) - Strong communication and interpersonal skills
(e) - Ability to work independently and as part of a team
