POSITION SUMMARY




The Resident Care Program Supervisor is responsible for supporting and assisting the Director of Resident Care with resident care, meeting with families, addressing immediate resident care requirements, completing quality assurance assignments, ensuring staffing coverage and coordination of emergency response protocols.


Resident Care Program Supervisor supports and collaborates with the DRC, and is primarily responsible for coordination of education, student placement and new hire orientation; OTN/virtual health coordination; oversight, and support of Required Programs, behavioral management program, quality improvement program, resident quality indicator, high-risk rounds, audits; unregulated healthcare provider performance evaluations, probationary evaluations, annual evaluations, and RAI-MDS support in consultation with the DRC.

As a Float role, this position may assist with coverage across all four of the County's Long Term Care Homes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)




1. Represent the Department on project teams as required.


2. Oversee and ensure appropriate participation and follow up is completed on each unit. Monitor and evaluate to support the improvement of the quality of nursing services provided by the unit.


3. Make independent decisions and practices sound judgment in response to resident care requirements in accordance with accepted standards of nursing practice.


4. Facilitate orientation and training programs and oversee day-to-day activities of staff according to County policies and guidelines.


5. Monitor, audit and evaluate compliance with facility policies and procedures and legislative requirements and complete appropriate follow up.


6. Monitor unregulated healthcare providers performance through completion of probationary evaluations and annual evaluations in consultation with the DRC.


7. Support DRC in follow up with low risk resident and family concerns and complaints.


8. Develop and implement staff educational opportunities in collaboration with DRC and community partners based on staff needs, best practices and legislative requirements.


9. Assist in the delegation of clinical and supervisory responsibilities to appropriately qualified staff, according to the applicable legislation and standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario.


10. Provide support in collaboration with DRC/ with Required Programs and the day-to-day activities of staff to ensure it is in line with departmental goals and objectives.


11. Supports the DRC in the review and preparation of nursing supplies orders and submits to DRC for approval (government drug supply and Life Labs)


12. Support the DRC to monitor facility-wide infection prevention and control program, provide infection surveillance and outbreak management activities under the direction of the DRC.


13. Is responsible to support the DRC.


14. Ensure compliance with the Long Term Care Homes Act and the Residents Bill of Rights.


15. Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.


16. Participate in on call responsibilities including attend the Home in emergency situations and/or as directed by the DRC.


17. Develop and maintain effective relationships with the residents, families, the general public, management, other service providers, committees, organizations, institutions and others. Promotes co-operation of services/programs with community agencies and other health care providers.


18. Provide leadership to Nursing Department staff in a manner that motivates and guides employees to the realization of departmental goals and objectives. Maintain a work environment that promotes staff participation, teamwork and positive labour relations.


19. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into all day to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety.


20. Prepare and present written reports as required.


21. Participate in committees as required.


22. Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures and legislation.


23. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.


24. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION




Strong knowledge of health care principles obtained through the completion of a diploma and/or degree in Registered Practical Nursing, with additional education or equivalent in the care of seniors.

Registered Practical Nurse, in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Strong understanding of policies and related legislation or initiatives and their significance and potential impact.

Sound leadership skills and ability to interpret and apply employment policies and collective agreements, and complete performance evaluations for unregulated healthcare providers.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong planning and organizational skills.

Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.

Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet application skills.

Strong aptitude for detail-oriented work

The ability to collaborate/communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team members and other internal stakeholders

Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit to TB Symptom Screening.

Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset (Georgian Village only).

The following would be an asset:


A current RPNAO membership

Current AIS certification

Hold a current certificate in Credentialing (MDS)

P.I.E.C.E.S, GPA Certification

Foot Care course and experience

Wound Care course and experience

Demonstrable experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data

Previous experience with group presentations

Knowledge and experience to facilitate adult education

Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, regulations and best practices applicable to the retirement and long-term care sector (e.g. RAI processes and CIHI, supplies, equipment ordering, etc.)

Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset (Georgian Village only).

EXPERIENCE




A minimum of two (2) years' experience in progressively responsible, related positions, preferably in a long-term care setting is preferred.

Experience in the supervision of staff and the administration of employment policies and collective agreements is preferred.

Visual and mental effort required when preparing and reviewing reports.

Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines under stressful situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS




This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
