Reporting to the Director of Nursing and Personal Care responsible for Long Term Care, the Residential Care Manager is responsible and accountable for assuring the delivery of holistic care and coordination of services to the residents in the unit. This position possesses overall responsibility with commensurate authority over the unit and participates in short and long term planning to provide nursing services for immediate and future goals.
This home is part of the government's plan to improve long-term care delivery and capacity in Ontario and in the Durham Region. This state-of-the-art long-term care home sets a new bar for seniors' care, with dining and outdoor space on every floor, a large courtyard, onsite diabetes care and other important innovative features.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborating with the Director of Care
Planning, directing, developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating resident care services;
Aligning resident care services with the defined needs of the internal and external community;
Overseeing the financial and human resource management aspects of the Nursing department;
Maintaining the nursing department in accordance with legislative and professional standards;
Liaising with hospital and medical staff, and community and health care partners to ensure the most effective provision of care delivery in the home;
Recruitment, supervision, development and performance management, including discipline up to and including termination, of staff;
Ensuring quality care and a safe, effective and efficient work environment;
Ensuring the availability and maintenance of Nursing Department supplies and equipment to meet the departmental needs in a fiscally responsible manner;
Issues relating to Infection Control and coordinating associated monitoring activities within the home;
Assuming responsibilities of the Director of Care as required in their absence;
Knowledge and expertise of the Resident Bill of Rights/Governing Principles and endeavor to promote it;
Ensuring resident satisfaction and continuous quality improvement initiatives are promoted;
Working in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector;
Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting;
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
BScN required (Masters preferred);
Current CPR designation is required;
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills;
Professional competencies related to life-long learning, public relations and health environment awareness;
Possession of strong motivational, team building and time management skills;
Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite;
Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset;
Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 6 months;
