Rotating 8-hour shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.; weekends required

Job purpose



The Resettlement & Integration Worker is responsible for assessing temporary resident individuals and families needs, providing case management support, information and referrals, as well as follow-up to help them resettle and navigate services in Durham.

Using Trauma-informed and Gender-Equity approaches, the Resettlement and integration Worker will also be responsible for updating the client database, promoting the services of the Durham Humanitarian Response Project, and conducting outreach activities and presentations to clients who are eligible for the services. The incumbent will be required to perform educational, employment and housing-related information sessions for eligible clients.

Duties and responsibilities

Using client-centered, anti-oppression, anti-racism, trauma-informed, gender-based analysis plus+ and strength-based approaches, build relationships and establish rapport with existing community partners, vendors, landlords, clients and staff. Maintain confidentiality and privacy protection measures for all community partners, vendors, landlords, clients and staff. Promote a high-functioning teamwork environment that is inclusive, harmonious, cooperative, efficient and productive. Participates in promoting a positive workplace culture through agency committee membership and departmental activities. Follow general directions and instructions from Team Leads within the DHRP department. Perform needs assessments of clients: + Determine the needs of the clients and the support that is appropriate for each individual client
Provide services, information and guidance: + Provide clients with appropriate services and information for immigration, financial, social, educational, recreational, etc., needs that ultimately encourage or hinder their settlement to Canada
+ Provide clients with information regarding their rights and obligations as a citizen, and provide access to information regarding housing, financial aid and general living services such as health and public transportation
Provide referrals, crisis intervention and counseling: + Provide client with adequate resources to aid in their transition, such as crisis intervention, referral services for counseling or referrals for translation services
Conduct group orientation and presentations: + Research and prepare for presentations to be conducted in a large group setting on topics such as settlement issues, etc.
Develop and maintain database and reporting: + Maintain client database to allow for updated information to better assist client needs; prepare reports regarding services used and clients interactions with the services as necessary.
+ Perform other tasks as necessary, including the responsibility of ensuring that all activities comply with social and employment laws, such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of the Durham Humanitarian Response Project to meet identified needs Attend and support internal and/or external meetings and events where applicable Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and skills



Post-secondary education in Social Services or a related area of study 3+ years of working experience in settlement services Proficiency in a second language is an asset Superior communication skills, oral and written proficiency in English Current and up-to-date knowledge of social services and social laws Experience working with the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services is a definite asset Knowledge of and sensitivity to multicultural communities Knowledge of gender-based violence, anti-oppression principles and trauma-informed approaches Demonstrated ability to understand, map, and improve workflow and processes Responds to stressful situations in a calm, collected and professional manner Must be proactive, resourceful, and possess the ability to resolve complex client concerns Strong computer literacy (i.e. word processing, databases, and email) and experience working in online environments with web-based tools

Additional Requirements



The Resettlement and Integration Worker will need to be flexible regarding assigned work hours and location Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends A valid Ontario driver's license (Class G), use of a vehicle and insurance with the ability to work in a variety of settings The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing employment
