. In this role you will focus on projects related to Indigenous history by preserving important histories to contribute to meaningful change.
Candidates must be able to work in Ottawa at our office location, Library and Archives Canada (LAC), or at federal government client facilities as required. Those with experience at Library and Archives Canada are particularly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Research:
Conduct thorough historical research, to gather accurate and detailed information, ensuring cultural and historical accuracy
Analysis:
Identify, retrieve, and interpret primary and secondary sources from archives, with a focus on Indigenous experiences, ensuring sensitivity to the context and cultural nuances.
Documentation:
Organize and document findings meticulously, maintaining clear records and adhering to best practices in data management.
Quality Control & Data Management:
Review archival findings for accuracy, integrity, and cultural relevance; perform quality checks on documents and digital records.
Communication:
Compile regular progress reports and communicate findings in a respectful, culturally informed manner.
Collaboration:
Working closely with the research and project management team to address project goals and contribute to problem-solving.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree. Those with related field of History, Indigenous Studies, Law, considered an asset
Experience:
1-2 years of primary source research experience and report writing
Indigenous Knowledge:
Familiarity of issues surrounding MMIWG, Metis rights, Truth and Reconciliation, or other Indigenous community priorities.
Research Skills:
Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with proven attention to detail and a commitment to ethical research practices.
Cultural Sensitivity:
Ability to work effectively and respectfully within Indigenous contexts, with an understanding of the importance of sensitivity in handling challenging topics.
Technical Competence:
Experience using academic databases, online research tools, and electronic archival systems.
Team Collaboration:
Experience working collaboratively within a research team, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications:
PWGSC Secret security clearance considered an asset
