Position Description





The Posluns Centre for Image Guided Innovation and Therapeutic Intervention (PCIGITI) at the Hospital for Sick Children is developing novel innovative surgical tools incorporating imaging, robotics and simulation. In particular, we are creating new therapeutic protocols and technology in the area of MR-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (MRgHIFU). We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual who will help develop a world leading reputation for our centre. In exchange, we offer an energetic atmosphere that fosters creative ideas and collaborations with renowned researchers. As a key member of the PCIGITI team, you will develop and implement HIFU acoustic and thermal simulation models in the brain and eye, liaise with other departments to plan and implement phantom experiments, and coordinate with the REB for access to imaging data. Additionally, you will provide technical experience in transcranial and intraocular HIFU simulations, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and high-performance computing methodologies. Skills and knowledge in parallel, image and data analysis will also be required.
Your specific responsibilities will include the following duties:
  • Drafting/documenting clinical research ethics forms for imaging data access for HIFU simulations.
  • Perform phantom experiments and data analysis for validating focused ultrasound simulations.
  • Publications and presentation of scientific research.
  • Supervise coop students on software development for HIFU simulations.
  • Project management duties (ordering, coordinating experiments, development of SOPs and experiment designs).
As the ideal candidate, you will possess the following characteristics:
  • MSc in computer science, biomedical engineering, medical biophysics, or related field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: imaging, HIFU, computer simulations
  • Ability to work independently and deliver on schedule
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Committed to continuous learning and improvement
