IntagBio is currently seeking an adept Technical Research Assistant to contribute to the operations of our pilot plant in Debert. The incumbent will focus on overseeing the maintenance and operation of our patented aqueous vermireactors (AVRs) as well as conducting plant trials, collecting data on the reactor and plant trials and assisting the general facility maintenance and cleaning. This role requires a meticulous individual that has experience working in agricultural settings (farms), conducting research and working with small tools. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with research personnel to ensure the smooth functioning of our AVRs, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute to experimental optimization efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance of Water Treatment Systems:
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on water treatment equipment, including pumps, filters, valves, and piping systems.
Monitor system performance and water quality parameters, promptly addressing any identified issues to uphold optimal functionality.
Implement preventive maintenance measures to minimize downtime and ensure consistent system operation.
Conducting research studies on plants
Conduct plant trials according to work plans, collect and analyze data and write reports. Conduct plant trials in growth rooms/greenhouse/fields. Extensive outdoor and indoor physical work.
Work in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary team. Maintain a good working relationship with team members.
Observe and promote all lab and occupational health and safety practices in the laboratory environment.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems associated with water treatment systems, employing analytical skills and practical expertise.
Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and performance in alignment with research goals and safety standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of system maintenance activities, water quality data, and experimental procedures to ensure comprehensive documentation.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations governing the handling of biological materials and hazardous substances.
Participate in safety training sessions and contribute to the development of safe work practices within the research facility.
Qualifications:
Storing organization skills (such as keeping tools organized and labelled, keeping files organized and labeled, maintaining a clean work area).
Prior experience in water treatment system maintenance, research laboratory environments, or a similar role is advantageous.
Prior experience in agricultural research, particularly lab and field work is advantageous.
Prior experience in working in a hydroponic environment is also advantageous.
Proficiency in diagnosing technical issues with equipment.
Capacity for critical thinking, creative experimentation, and adaptation to evolving research objectives and challenges.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transport heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and kneeling.
