About Us

The works collaboratively with government departments, agencies, academia, community groups, and women-serving organizations. It is responsible for operational and administrative support to transition houses, women\'s centers, the Nova Scotia Native Women\'s Association, and Alice House.

The Office leads Standing Together, Nova Scotia\'s coordinated approach to preventing domestic violence. Our current priorities are: ensuring that women and their children are safe from gender-based violence; strengthening women\'s economic security; and encouraging women\'s participation in leadership.

About Our Opportunity

The Research and Statistical Officer leads specialized statistical research and program analysis to assist in developing a robust data gathering and analysis framework aligned to the National Gender Results Framework, and other data analysis.

Your research and expertise will ensure the Status of Women Office has reliable and relevant data, research, and evaluation information to inform for knowledge mobilization, and strategic policy and program objectives.

Primary Accountabilities

In this role, you will collaborate with government departments, various stakeholders, and jurisdictions to gather and coordinate information. You will achieve this by:

  • Providing analysis of data pertinent to the Status of Women office\'s objectives, and presenting summaries, recommendations, and reports;
  • Preparing reports, presentations, briefing materials for senior leadership;
  • Determining data requirements and design collection procedures to gather and analyze data;
  • Supporting policy and program review through statistical analysis;
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of research approaches, including methodologies, stakeholder consultations and surveys; and
  • Contributing to the formulation of policy and program recommendations and solutions based on research and analysis.
Qualifications and Experience

You have a completed a related bachelor\'s degree and five (5) years of related experience in policy, program, and research; or have completed a related master\'s degree and three (3) years of related experience.

As the ideal candidate you must have strong research, analytical and organizational skills. You are analytical in nature and can identify opportunities, determine program requirements, evaluate alternatives, and provide sound recommendations to senior management. You must be able to work and participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. This role also requires ability to work independently with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, and able to follow-up pro-actively and address issues as they arise. You must have excellent written and oral communications skills and presentation skills along with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.

Previous experience working within the gender-based violence sector is an important asset.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

We recognize equivalent combinations of training, education, and experience, providing opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds to contribute their skills and expertise. Equivalencies include, but are not limited to:
  • Completion of a 2-year diploma and seven (7) years related experience
  • At least Nine (9) years related experience

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

Additional Information

This is a Term employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of October 2, 2024. The appointment status (\'term\', \'temporary\' or \'casual\') is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
