Summary
The Research Scientist, Chemistry supports the development of new products and research requests from SixRing. The Research Scientist, Chemistry will receive guidance from and execute tasks assigned by the Laboratory Manager and/or the Senior Laboratory Manager to support these activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan & execute research & development projects independently, by running a consistent background, patent and literature search and setting up a time and milestone plan.
Independently perform laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations, publications and patents.
Design and execute experimental setups independently and follow strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
Stay current with technical developments, prioritizing those that improve efficiency, reduce costs, advance technological capabilities, and enhance reliability.
Commission, maintain, troubleshoot and operate laboratory equipment (i.e., reactors, HPLC, GC, etc.).
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, quality, regulatory) to translate research findings into practical applications. Assist in developing scale-up processes and manufacturing procedures.
Collaborate in the filing of patents as an outcome of dedicated research and development projects.
Maintain accurate and detailed records in laboratory notebooks and electronic databases to ensure reproducibility and support regulatory/IP requirements.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative solutions to enhance laboratory efficiency and data reliability.
Ensure that safety guidelines are followed at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Mentoring of other junior laboratory personnel.
Compile and interpret experimental or analytical data, applying statistical methods when required, and prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry transformations as well as methodologies (i.e., liquid-liquid extractions, adsorptions, column chromatography, etc.).
Ability to analyze and characterize organic chemistry molecules according to different techniques (i.e., 1H and 13C NMR, FTIR, Mass Spectrometry, etc.).
Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan and carry out medium- and long-term research projects, set priorities, manage milestones, and deliver results on schedule.
Demonstrated adaptability and creativity in responding to changing project needs and research directions.
Ability to conduct multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical data clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
Time management skills to keep ahead of laboratory and administrative tasks in various areas.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook.

Experience/Education
M.Sc. (with minimum 2 years experience) or PhD. In Chemistry, preference will be given with those with an emphasis in Organic Chemistry. Relevant experience may be considered in place of a higher degree.
Working Conditions
Travel may be required.

Ability to work in an office and laboratory environment.
