About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Research & Laboratory Safety, and in collaboration with the Program Managers in Research Safety, the Research Safety Coordinator, EHRS coordinates and delivers lab safety training for SFU faculty, staff and students. The incumbent is responsible for developing course content, documentation, and other support materials; coordinating registration, equipment and facilities; administering and marking tests and quizzes; responding to queries about training; and recommending changes to the training programs.
The incumbent conducts risk assessments and investigations for minor incidents and prepares reports for incidents occurring in laboratories; participates on and supports local health & safety committees; maintains and updates the Environmental Health & Research Safety (EHRS) website; coordinates the hazardous material door signage program and online system; and coordinates and participates in safety events. The Research Safety Coordinator assists the Program Managers in coordinating and conducting laboratory inspections and performing hazardous material exposure assessments.
