Overview:




Reporting to the HR & Volunteer Manager, this role will drive and oversee the health & safety programs, including wellness programs, training, incident investigations, implementation of corrective actions and management of the safety recognition awards. The health and safety coordinator will also oversee the management of WINS alarm system, access control and video surveillance.

Duties and Responsibilities:





Health and Safety



Design, implement and communicate health, safety, security and wellness policies. This includes Job Hazzard assessments (JHAs), managing of return-to-work plans, modified work duties, training, and documentation. Lead and support thorough investigations into workplace incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative measures to improve safety standards. Ensure that lessons learned are communicated to prevent recurrence. Actively participate in and support the Joint Health & Safety Committee, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and assisting in the implementation of recommendations and initiatives aimed at improving workplace safety. Develop, implement, and regularly review emergency response procedures. Coordinate and conduct emergency drills, ensuring that all employees are trained to respond effectively in the event of an emergency. Plan, coordinate, and deliver safety orientations and ongoing training to new and existing employees, ensuring that safety policies and emergency procedures are well-understood and adhered to. Champion the development and promotion of wellness initiatives aligned to WINS Wellness program, supporting physical and mental health. Collaborate with external providers to offer wellness programs that encourage employee well-being and foster a healthy workplace culture. Conduct monthly analysis and tracking of accidents and injuries and reporting, on trends and proactively suggesting improvements, and provide actionable insights based on data. Ensure regular inspections and audits are carried out in line with safety policies. Work with teams to develop and implement action plans aimed at addressing gaps or risks identified during these processes Oversee the monitoring and management of key certifications, including First Aid training and other relevant health and safety qualifications, ensuring employees are up to date with required certifications Manage the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) process and reporting, offering support to employees and managers to navigate claims and ensure proper documentation. Advocate for return-to-work strategies that are beneficial for both the employee and the organization. Respond timely and appropriately to incident reports, including security alerts, workplace injuries, and emergencies. Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure quick resolution and follow-up. Other duties as assigned


Security




Oversee alarm system functions, including the coordination of installations, configuration, maintenance, and rapid response to alarm notifications. Ensure the integrity and security of the alarm systems at all times. Managing access control systems to regulate entry and exit from buildings or restricted areas. This may include training and assigning authorized personnel in programming door locks, maintaining access logs, monitoring entries and exits. Managing video surveillance systems, including control of viewing to deter unauthorized activities and provide evidence in case of incidents. This includes coordination of installing and configuring cameras, monitoring live feeds, reviewing recorded footage, and ensuring the system's functionality. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:



Post-secondary education and/or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of at least 3 years of experience in an occupational health & safety role, including WCB management Minimum of at least 1 year of experience in managing security alarms and video surveillance
