Primary Purpose



This position is to provide support to the Principal Investigators in the administration of a research program in Groundwater Geochemistry and Remediation (GGR), which includes several complex multi-institutional and multi-partner projects. The Research Program Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigators, other research group staff, and researchers from other academic institutions to coordinate research data management and will be responsible for administration tasks including budgeting for internal tracking and funding proposals, procurement, coordination of a training program and participation in recruitment of laboratory and field staff.



Key Accountabilities



Laboratory and Field Program



Coordinate and implement laboratory and field safety procedures and training protocols


Provide support to graduate students and staff conducting research in geochemical laboratories and at field sites as needed


Manage monthly laboratory safety inspections


Participate in and help coordinate training of new and current graduate students/staff/co-op students at the beginning of each term and as needed


Back-up and organize safety paperwork for students


Research Data Management



Ensure graduate students, undergraduate thesis students, postdoctoral fellows and staff members within the GGR group back up their data at least once per term on an external hard drive


Ensure students, postdoctoral fellows and staff back up all research data on a centrally available system, and follow the data management plan requirements, and that the metadata template is filled out correctly prior to defending theses and/or departure from positions


Coordinate with researchers to upload all project data to a third-party cloud-based server, and organize the uploaded data


Contribute to the overall management of groundwater geochemistry and remediation program



Conduct administrative duties ( e.g. , analytical billing, budget tracking, travel claims)


Assist with staff and student pay (work with PIs for payroll allocations, co-op student pay, graduate student stipends)


Assist in the preparation of grant applications that support the research program (particularly budget development and justification, updating of CVs)


Apply for and renew research licenses ( e.g. , for research conducted in the NT and YT)


Participate in the hiring of new co-op students (create postings, conduct interviews, hire through Workday)


Schedule and organize group and network meetings, arrange catering and issue invitations.


Record, distribute and archive meeting minutes.



Required Qualifications



Education



BSc in Earth Sciences or a related discipline


Experience



Experience with Unit4, Concur, making purchase requisitions, analytical billing, internal invoicing is an asset


Experience with budget tracking for concurrent research projects


Experience with geochemical laboratory and field site procedures


Conference call and meeting organization is an asset


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint


Report-writing skills


Detail-oriented, highly organized


Knowledge of geochemistry, hydrogeology and contaminant transport processes is an asset


Full G License is an asset


Can work well both independently and in a team environment
