Bridging the gap between data, research, and care, Advancing Health is a collaboration between cross-disciplinary scientists and expert research staff evaluating the effectiveness of health interventions at the population level. The Centre consists of over approximately 85 faculty members and 130-150 staff and other research personnel. From assessing the cost-effectiveness of a new drug or treatment option to informing policy decisions that change how care is delivered, Advancing Health seeks to improve health outcomes for all.

The Role



Reporting to the Centre Associate Director, the Research Program Coordinator supports Dr. Amy Salmon (Scientist and Centre Associate Director) and members of the Advancing Health Seniors Care team on projects located in the Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, BC. Responsibilities include supporting with study logistics (including plans for onsite data collection at locations in the Comox Valley and North Vancouver Island), organizing meetings, assisting with internal team communication, supporting the development of grant proposals, reports, and manuscripts, preparing applications for ethics reviews and renewals. This position does not include supervision of other staff.

Work Performed



Completion of literature searches, summaries, and reviews

Supporting timely and effective communication among research team members Organizing meetings with internal and external research team members Assisting with preparing grant proposals for health research and evaluation funders (CIHR, MSHRBC, philanthropic funders, etc.) Assisting with manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and for practitioner and community audiences Assisting with collecting, entering, cleaning, and analyzing quantitative data using standardized Quality of Life measurement tools Other administrative support duties, including ethics submissions, letter writing, meeting organization and other tasks as needed on behalf of the Centre Associate Director

Location



This position will be located in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia.

To begin, this position will be largely remote, with weekly onsite work and travel to various senior's care study sites in order to complete the duties of the role. This includes work in long term care homes (e.g., Providence Living at The Views), hospitals (e.g., Comox Valley North Island Hospital), and community settings. Work space will also be available at one of these locations (TBD) in the Comox Valley.

This position includes visiting a health care site which has historically included requirements related to vaccinations and wearing medical masks to ensure safety.

Minimum Qualifications



A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and relevant work or volunteer research experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with health, social care, or community-based organizations in the Comox Valley is a strong asset.

Preferred Qualifications



Experience in the fields of dementia, long-term care, and/or senior's care Proficiency in MS Windows applications and use of academic library databases Experience with project management and/or coordinating team-based approaches to work Experience using statistical analysis software, such as R, and/or RedCap databases, and/or using software for qualitative data analysis Ability to communicate effectively and build strong working relationships across health, social services, and community service sectors Conscientious and understands Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion approaches especially with regards to research with equity-deserving groups Understands and/or has direct experience working in Indigenous community contexts, including an understanding of cultural safety and practices for reconciliation in research partnerships with Indigenous communities Understands and/or has direct experience working in rural and remote community contexts Self-directed, able to prioritize tasks efficiently Because this position requires independent travel to and from sites throughout the Comox Valley; having access to a vehicle and holding a valid driver's license is strongly recommended
