Research Lab Technician, College of Dentistry

Primary Purpose:

To provide technical and administrative assistance with College of Dentistry Research projects as well as the Sterilizer and Waterline Testing Service.


Nature of Work:

The successful candidate will be responsible to support various research projects within the College of Dentistry, providing specific technical expertise in designated lab procedures as well as performing specific technical and administrative support activities. This will include activities such as provision of daily testing procedures/protocols in lab, and parallel administrative functions to ensure smooth operation of research projects and testing service.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:



Provide support and expertise to the College's new and ongoing research projects, including data collection compilation and interpretation Regular tracking and ordering of supplies to ensure appropriate quantities of stock are on hand. General lab cleanliness Filing of records as required Daily technical processing of waterline and spore test strips in a sterile, controlled environment. Preparation of test result reports using an electronic database Mail opening, sorting, and organizing Answering telephone calls and e-mail inquiries Maintenance of electronic client database to ensure accuracy of records Preparation of quarterly test kits for all clients. Working directly with the financial administration staff to ensure the accuracy of and timely collection of service fees Other duties as assigned

Education:

High School Diploma is required. Bachelor's degree in a related field is an asset.


Experience:

Three years of experience in a related technical position is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.


Skills:

The successful candidate must be independent, task-oriented, and self-directed. Effective organizational and time management skills are required; effective and positive, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a high-performance customer service-oriented team. The ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline driven environment is essential. Computer skills such as fluency with MS Word and Excel are required.
