Dr. Kerri Kobryn's laboratory in the Dept. of Biochemistry, Microbiology & Immunology in the College of Medicine focuses on the study of the maintenance of linear DNAs in bacteria from the Borrelia and Agrobacterium genera. We have a particular focus on the study of the class of enzymes referred to as telomere resolvases. We use a combination of genetic and biochemical tools to study the enzymology of the telomere resolvase enzymes to address how they form hairpin telomeres and to study the other functions of this multifunctional class of enzymes.



We are recruiting a technician for our group. Reporting to Dr. Kerri Kobryn the successful candidate will be key to the daily operation of the lab and the completion of research projects. This role involves performing experimental activities, managing lab resources, supervision of other highly qualified personnel, and documentation of procedures and data. This role also involves activities and documentation to ensure compliance with our radiation and biohazardous materials permits. Because of the nature of the work the position will require flexibility in work hours and may, on occasion, require coming in outside the normal 8am - 4: 30pm timeframe.


Qualifications:






A BSc or equivalent in a life sciences discipline

Demonstrated experience and proficiency with site-directed mutagenesis, recombinant protein expression and purification

Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques (e.g.PCR, cloning, genetic transformation, creation of competent cells, nucleic acid extraction and manipulation)

Proficiency working with radioisotope labeling of nucleic acids

Prior experience working in containment level 2 (CL2) lab

Prior experience with the biochemical characterization of bacterial DNA modifying, binding and recombination enzymes is preferred

Excellent organizational skills and documentation abilities

Strong communication skills

The ability to work both independently and the ability to work with others

The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $31.39 - 43.96 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
