Founded in 1912, the Faculty of Law is the oldest law school in Western Canada. Faculty members of the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law are recognized nationally and internationally as leading scholars and teachers, and lead by example in their service to the university, legal and civic communities. The Faculty enrolls approximately 525 Juris Doctor students and operates a robust graduate program. The Faculty of Law is also home to four research groups that contribute research, ideas, innovation and policy expertise to important areas of public concern: the Wahkohtowin Law Governance Lodge, Health Law Institute, Centre for Constitutional Studies, and Alberta Law Reform Institute.

Position




Reporting to the Faculty General Manager, this position is responsible for planning, coordination, promotion and delivery of research events in the faculty of Law in collaboration staff and faculty members. Events may include, but are not limited to research meetings, conferences, seminars, symposia and events celebrating research. The incumbent will also ensure research events are included in Law's events calendar. In addition, this position is responsible for organizing lectures and lecture series funded by Law endowments and other funding sources. The incumbent will also provide pre- and post-award research support to faculty members.

Duties




Research Events

Work in collaboration with Law faculty members and staff in Law to manage research event logistics, including securing a University of Alberta or external venue (may involve security quotes and confirmation of costs), confirming and ordering catering, and arranging for registration, equipment, displays and event set-up/tear-down. Work closely with faculty members and staff in Law to organize annual lectures and lecture series funded from a variety of sources, including endowments and operating. Ensure correct protocol and logistics are in place for high profile speakers from the legal community and government, which may involve arranging for security. Confirm funding sources and budgets for events. Make travel arrangements for invited guests, and prepare and submit travel and expense claims. Work in collaboration with Law's Communications Partner to prepare and disseminate promotional material for research events utilizing appropriate channels, including posters, email and social media platforms. Prepare and send scheduled event reminders. Ensure events are added to the faculty's events calendar as appropriate. Prepare and conduct event evaluation surveys to solicit feedback, and utilize evaluation results to prepare post-event reports that include event outcomes, participant feedback and recommendations for improvement.

Research Administrative Support

In collaboration with Law faculty members, assist with the preparation and submission of grant proposals by identifying submission guidelines, collecting and collating required information and ensuring submission deadlines are met. Assist faculty members with editing and formatting research grant proposals and with the preparation of budgets for grant applications. Assist Principal Investigators (PIs) with entering proposals for new projects in Researcher Home Page and tracking approval progress. Utilizing eTRAC and Researcher Home Page, assist (PIs) with monitoring research projects, including project balances and expenditures, and working with PIs to seek sponsor approval to extend end dates and assist with the resolution of over expenditures. Work in collaboration with Law's Associate Dean (Research) to promote research initiatives.

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree. Demonstrated proficiency in event planning and project management. Experience drafting, reviewing and editing written material in an academic setting. Proficiency with MS Office suite and Google applications. Experience with Researcher Home Page and PeopleSoft Financials, including eTRAC. Experience with SupplyNet. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to embrace change, adapt to new information, and work proactively and positively in an evolving organizational context. Ability to set priorities and manage changing/conflicting priorities and tight deadlines. Ability to work accurately with attention to detail. University of Alberta institutional knowledge and research administration experience would be an asset.
