The Research Ethics Coordinator for the Research Ethics Board (REB) is a key administrative position within the research structure of the University Health Network. The position has both scientific and ethics review functions as well as a liaison function. The Coordinator is responsible for the coordinating and managing all aspects of the submission, review, revision, and approval of research protocols within the University Health Network. The Coordinator must be familiar with experimental design as it applies to biomedical research and be familiar with the most recent ethical standards as captured in the Tri-Council Policy Statement. The Coordinator must be able to communicate and liaise effectively with the REB Co-chairs, investigators, research coordinators and administrative staff throughout UHN as well as with outside groups such as pharmaceutical companies and government agencies. The Coordinator coordinates and supports the REB and its members. The Coordinator must have effective organizational skills and is responsible for supervising the daily maintenance of electronic and paper files. The Coordinator must be able to work independently but under the supervision of the Manager.
