Research Associates:





Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to perform high-level, complex research activities, and will normally hold a Master's degree. Individuals with training beyond a Master's degree who have limited experience may also be appointed into this classification level.


Position Overview:





Dr. Wijenayake at the University of Winnipeg is looking for a Research Associate with at least two years of experience in Cell and Molecular Biology techniques and Level 2 Biosafety protocols to lead a project on immunocytochemistry (ICC).



The Research Associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Wijenayake and Dr. Sabine Mai (Collaborator at the University of Manitoba) and will be expected to exercise critical thinking, planning, organization, and implementation of experiments. Work activities will be carried out independently, under general direction, in line with established policies, objectives, and training.


Duties and Responsibilities:




Receive training on ICC, learn and perfect new methodology. Implement experiments, data collection protocols, and standards. Conduct high-level and complex academic research and literature searches. Collect and manage research data and conduct advanced analysis of research results. Gather publishable ICC data for a manuscript in preparation. Interpret research findings and perform editorial tasks. Present project status and findings to stakeholders. Assist in preparing articles, publications, reports and presentations. Prepare materials for submission to research funding agencies and foundations. Perform other duties as required or assigned, including training of junior students in cell and molecular biology techniques. Can work in two established research laboratories at the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. Collaborate with fellow lab members and attend lab meetings.Have the flexibility to work evenings and weekends, if required.

Qualifications:




Have completed a MSc (thesis based) in a related field within the past 5 years. Well versed in cell and molecular biology techniques. Trained in Level 2 biosafety protocols. Have extensive in vitroexperience including cell seeding, propagations, treatments, supplementation, and harvesting of immortalized and primary cell lines. Experience in fluorescent microscopy. Experience in ICC is a positive.

The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person at the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. As such, the candidate must reside or be willing to move to Winnipeg, Manitoba.
