Research Associate

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of Professor Mustafa Kumral, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to join our team at the Mineral Economics, Mine Reliability, and Asset Management Laboratory in the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering. The successful candidate will lead and conduct cutting-edge research in mine planning and mineral economics. This role offers an opportunity to engage in advanced modelling and optimization techniques with a focus on developing practical solutions for the mining industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The tasks of this position include but are not limited to the following:Design and execute research methodologies related to short-term mine planning, incorporating particle size distribution of fragmented and loaded materials. Develop and refine optimization and simulation models that integrate mineral processing with mine planning strategies. Lead case study development, including data collection and curing, data analysis and documentation preparation. Develop, implement and analyze integrated mine-mill models to evaluate operational efficiencies. Write research reports and scholarly articles for dissemination in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS:PhD in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline. Minimum of five (5) years of research experience in mine planning and optimization. Demonstrated strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with industry-standard mine planning software and familiarity with advanced optimization techniques, such as Bender decomposition, is an asset Possess advanced data analysis skills, including experience with large datasets, statistical modeling, and computational tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R). Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with the ability to present complex research findings clearly to both academic and industry audiences. Strong academic research writing skills, with experience preparing scientific reports and contributing to peer-reviewed publications. Excellent organizational and time management abilities, especially in managing multiple experimental workflows and data sets. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
