Summary of the role
We are currently seeking a Research Associate to assist Dr. Colleen Webber at the Bruyere Health Research Institute.
Dr. Webber's research team is dedicated to improving care for aging populations using quantitative, health services research methods applied to health administrative data and electronic medical records. Her research program prioritizes activities in the areas of long-term care, palliative care, and mental health among aging populations.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Research Associate to join our team to actively contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of long-term care and palliative care. This role will focus on supporting research activities within the OnSPARK data platform (www.onspark.ca). The Research Associate will play a key role in conducting research projects, including study design, data analysis and interpretation, as well as contributing to grant development and research ethics applications.
Main duties and responsibilities
Undertaking and contributing to health research projects by applying appropriate quantitative research methods such as descriptive analysis, statistical models, literature reviews, and surveys
Leading the development of cohort creation and data analysis plans and overseeing their implementation in collaboration with data analysts
Interpreting data results with clarity, transforming them into key messages and visualizations for a range of audiences
Planning and drafting grant proposals, encompassing literature reviews, administrative tasks, collaborator meetings, updates, budget planning, or requests for specific feedback
Maintaining up-to-date administrative records of institutional research ethics for ongoing and completed projects
Effectively communicating with team members, clinical collaborators, colleagues, research advisors, patient partners, and external stakeholders
Coordinating logistical support for research-related tasks including scheduling, hosting, attending regular meetings, and maintaining ongoing administrative and collaborator correspondence
Developing and maintaining systems to track progress of research projects and stakeholder outreach
Additional duties may be added as the projects progress
Qualifications
Master's degree with at least 3 years relevant experience working in health services research environment or PhD
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Word, PPT, Outlook, Excel)
Demonstrated training and experience in quantitative study design, methodology and advanced data analysis techniques
Proficiency in a statistical software (e.g., R, SAS) is an asset
Research experience with older adults, long-term care and/or palliative care is an asset
Experience working with health administrative data and/or electronic medical records data is an asset
Fluent in French and English, an asset
Key Competencies
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Familiarity with the Canadian/Ontario healthcare system, particularly long-term care, is preferred
Strong communication skills in English, both written and oral
Resourcefulness and demonstrated ability to learn and adapt quickly
Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, prioritize tasks, and coordinate work based on deliverables
Proven record in successful grant applications is an asset
