Duties:
Power system modeling and analysis using dynamic and electromagnetic transient simulation tools
Real-time simulation of power systems
Design and utilization of hardware-in-the-loop and power-hardware-in-the-loop test setups
Failure and contingency analysis of electric power systems
Testing and analysis of inverter-based resources and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
Testing, analysis, and design of protection, control, and automation schemes for power systems
Grid impact analysis of electric vehicles
Testing and modeling of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles
Develop and execute research vision with PI to achieve research goals
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be/have:
A PhD in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on power systems
A minimum of 5 years of working experience in the utility sector
Strong publication record in IEEE journals in the area of electric power systems
Strong experience with electromechanical dynamics simulation tools (preferably PSS/E and PSLF). This experience should be reflected in the candidate's journal publication record
Strong experience with real-time digital simulators (RTDS, Typhoon, and OpalRT)
Experience with electromagnetic transient simulation programs (preferably PSCAD and EMTP-RV)
Strong programming skills (preferably for Python and Matlab)
Strong experience of design and utilization of power HIL setups
Extensive experience of root cause failure analysis for electric power systems
Experience with wind/solar inverter modeling using EMT simulation tools will be considered a plus
Experience of post-doctoral studies is an asset
