Pier Labs is seeking a full-time Research Associate to join our non-profit organization in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will lead and deliver research and evaluation projects focus on social innovation. In alignment with our pursuit of evidence-based policy, the Research Associate will work with our partners to identify and deliver rigorous research to design, test, and evaluate policy and programming with the objective of informing public policy and program delivery. The Research Associate would work with not-for-profit, philanthropic, academic, and public sector partners to complete this work. Responsibilities:
Design evaluation frameworks aligned with project objectives and requirements
Developing interventions to test - applying concepts from behavioral and social science to the design of communications, processes, and programs
Supporting the development of field experiments
Develop data collection plans and data analysis strategies to answer key evaluation questions
Create and test data collection instruments and protocols
Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis for a range of research and evaluation projects
Work with clients and partners to co-design and implement evaluation activities, including training and technical assistance
Monitor data collection activities and conduct data quality assurance
Prepare effective communication materials to share with partners and stakeholders
Conduct jurisdictional scans, literature searches and evidence reviews to inform evidence-informed decision-making
Provide policy analysis and program design support
Write reports and prepare presentations to effectively communicate research results and recommendations to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
Conduct project coordination activities including developing project schedules and work plans, organizing meetings, managing documents and tracking activities
Qualifications:
Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree or PhD in behavioural science, economics, sociology, psychology, public administration, political science, population health or related field
Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
Academic or job-related experience conducting evaluations of social programs is highly desired
Experience designing randomized control experiments
Experience designing data collection instruments including surveys and/or interview protocols
Experience in research, public policy analysis and program design. Related research expertise in employment and skills development sector would be an asset.
Experience leading and managing the delivery of projects with proven ability in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
Excellent written and verbal communication, with a strong ability to convey complex ideas and information to non-technical audiences
Strong motivation and commitment to research excellence, generating new ideas, exchanging and mobilizing knowledge, and continuous improvement
Ability to make appropriate decisions in the face of complexity or uncertainty, identify and manage risks, and act to address issues when necessary
