Department of Emergency Medicine

in the

Cumming School of Medicine

invites applications for a

Research Assistant

. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 5 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


This position reports to the Principal Investigator.



The Research Assistant's primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator and support the research team through providing semi-skilled or skilled research procedures.


Work commitment is expected to be approximately 20 hours/week; this can be off-site or on-site at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital.


This is a recurring part time position with variable hours. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Understand and implement basic research procedures with respect to informed consent, data collection and reporting Under general supervision & direction of the PI, collect data on emergency department patients using electronic health record reviews Work collaboratively with emergency department physicians, nurses and pharmacy team Work collaboratively with research team (principal investigator, co-investigators, undergraduate and/or medical students/residents) Be available by telephone and email while on shift/at work Be comfortable in an emergency department environment Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work Demonstrates strong communication skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines

Qualifications / Requirements:



Bachelor's Degree in a related field Ethics-related certifications TCPS 2, GCP required Training in use of Connect Care/EPIC Electronic Medical Record AHS and Covenant Health Privacy Certificate Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as RedCAP database A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
