RESEARCH ASSOCIATE \xe2\x80\x93 Department of Pediatrics

The UBC Department of Pediatrics based at the BC Children\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital Research Institute, invites applications for a Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary translational research program with specific goals of preventing diabetes in children and improving outcomes of children living with diabetes.

The Devlin lab is an energetic and collegial group dedicated to enhancing the health of children. Current work in the lab includes conducting research on nutrient intakes and metabolism and relationship to cardiometabolic disease risk in children and assessing mechanisms of cardiovascular complications in children with diabetes. The Research Associate will contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of the ongoing research projects in the Devlin Lab, collaborating and consulting with clinician researchers, scientists, clinical research coordinators, research assistants, and trainees to design and complete studies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Presents research findings at conferences and related research events.

Prepares and leads the development of content for academic manuscripts, technical reports, research proposals, and presentations.

Mentoring of trainees and research staff members.

Keeps up-to-date with new applications, and technology for nutritional assessment and cardiometabolic disease risk assessment in children.

Performs other related duties, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a PhD in a relevant field (nutrition, diabetes, cardiovascular physiology) and a minimum of five years of laboratory research experience.

Candidates should have extensive experience utilizing and interpreting dietary data and methods of nutritional assessment and relationship to biomarkers of nutrient status in children/youth, with recent publications in the field.

An established track record of developing and delivering educational materials and seminars to a variety of research and clinical-based audiences.

Skills and Abilities:

Superior analytical, problem\xe2\x80\x90solving and system analysis skills including the ability to resolve complex issues and synthesize related data/information including presenting that information in concise and meaningful ways.

The ability to explain complex concepts to a wide array of fundamental and clinical research audiences.

Experience working with data in a secure and confidential manner.

Demonstrated strong data and statistical problem\xe2\x80\x90solving ability and judgment.

Ability to exercise independent judgment in facilitating decisions and communications on input parameters into medical/scientific models.

Ability to function in a self\xe2\x80\x90directed manner.

Excellent ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a variety of people.

Excellent time management skills.

Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of stakeholders supported by an acute awareness of the impact of actions.

Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.

Demonstrated flexibility in responding to program and strategic priorities.

This position will begin March 11, 2024. This is a one-year term appointment subject to annual renewal.
