Research Associate - Knowledge Makers Program
Please note that this Research Associate position is funded by TRU\'s Integrated Strategic Planning (ISP) grant and supports the pan-university Honours College model and will involve considerable coordination with other ISP/Honours College teams and the Provost\'s Office.
DUTIES:
A Research Associate is needed to assist in carrying out the goals of the All My Relations Centre with a focus on the Knowledge Makers program, and the Seni7wk ISP Project, in an effective and efficient manner. This is a full-time research position with an appointment period of December 1, 2023, to March 31, 2026.
The mission of the All My Relations Research Centre is to advance Indigenous community wellness by bringing together regional, national, and international Indigenous researchers to work in partnership with Indigenous communities to identify, research, advance and build capacity and capability in Indigenous community wellness. Knowledge Makers is an award-winning Indigenous research network dedicated to transforming universities by engaging Indigenous students across disciplines in research and publication. In support of this, the Seni7wk ISP program aims to increase retention among Indigenous students and faculty, work towards eliminating achievement gaps for Indigenous youth, and to expand and further develop the Knowledge Makers program.
To accomplish these goals, the Research Associate will:

  • Work in close association with the Grant Holder;
  • Ensure the scholarly integrity of the related research projects;
  • Help plan the work that will be done;
  • Organize and complete the work;
  • Supervise support personnel and provide administrative assistance when necessary;
  • Analyze data;
  • Help to organize and write research applications;
  • Help draft scholarly reports, papers and research proposals;
  • Help create and design research studies; and
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters degree focused on education or relevant field
  • Strong understanding of different research processes and the ability to mentor and teach inexperienced researchers of all levels.
  • Thorough understanding of Indigenous research methodologies.
  • Experience in writing and publishing literature reviews and articles/chapters in academic journals.

  • Acute attention to detail that allows for excellence in editing, revisions and feedback on preliminary submitted academic articles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous students\xe2\x80\x99 potential barriers to participation and ability to assist in problem solving to assure wrap around services exist to support students.
  • Ability to work within and assist others in navigating through complex systems.
  • Ability to plan, develop and execute events and activities including but not limited to organizing culturally sensitive gatherings, planning wrap around support services for students and working with elders to address community needs.
  • Must be culturally sensitive and able to interact with people of all backgrounds in a kind and professional manner.


QUALIFICATIONS

Research Associate Faculty are placed on the appropriate salary scale in line with their qualifications, unless the salary level is specifically mandated by the external funding agency.
