invites applications for a

Research Associate

. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 2 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate will conduct high quality research in the area of hydrological modelling. The successful candidate will evaluate large-domain, multi-model hydrological frameworks, advance model-agnostic benchmarking, and integrate hydrodynamic and water quality modeling approaches. They will also mentor graduate students, support research publications, and contribute to grant applications and collaborations with government and industry partners.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Lead research in hydrological, hydrodynamic, and water quality modeling, with applications to reservoirs, rivers, and lakes Develop and apply multi-scale model evaluation systems using open-source tools (Python, Fortran, GitHub) Conduct high-performance computing simulations of environmental systems Manage and analyze large datasets to support reproducible, open-source scientific workflows Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences Mentor MSc and PhD students and support junior research staff Collaborate with industrial, government, and Indigenous partners on applied water resource projects Contribute to research proposals and reporting for funding agencies

Qualifications / Requirements:



PhD in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or related field 1-3 years of postdoctoral research experience in hydrodynamic or hydrological modeling Strong background in fluid mechanics, sediment transport, and water quality analysis Proficiency in programming (Python, Fortran, C/C++, Matlab) and numerical modeling of environmental systems Demonstrated experience with HPC environments, parallel computing, and open-source software development Track record of high-impact peer-reviewed publications and invited presentations Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada is an asset Excellent communication, analytical, and teamwork skills
