The Research Associate will receive an annual salary of $66,924 per year.

The is a mid-sized academic unit at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver Point Grey campus, on the unceded traditional territory of the Musqueam people. It has more than 500 undergraduates, 200 graduate, 40 faculty, and 20 core staff. It Is known for outstanding learning opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and as a fulfilling and welcoming place to work. The department invites applications for a full-time term position at the rank of Research Associate. The anticipated start date is March 1, 2024. The candidate will lead a biomedical engineering project to develop new methods to assess secreted molecules from single cells. The project is supervised by Prof. Hongshen Ma. The research associate position is for 1 year with the possibility of renewal subject to work performance and funding availability.

Duties

• Plan and perform experiments in biomedical engineering in areas such as bioconjugation chemistry, immunolabeling, cell separation, cell tissue culture, single cell library preparation, genome sequencing, and single cell data analytics.
• Manage collaborations with partner laboratories
• Train and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
• Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication
• Assist in the preparation of grant proposals
• Maintain laboratory facilities

Qualifications

• PhD in mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering

• Previous experience in bioconjugation chemistry, immunolabeling, cell separation, cell tissue culture, single cell library preparation, genome sequencing, and bioinformatics.

• Previous experience in publishing biomedical research
• Previous experience in managing collaborations between multiple laboratories
