The mandate of Dr. William Miller\'s research program is to optimize mobility through the use of assistive technology so that adults can fully participate in daily life. We are looking for an enthusiastic and keen individual to join our team as a Research Assistant (RA) in Dr. Miller\'s Rehab Research Lab situated at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre.Work PerformedAssists in analyzing and interpreting data using quantitative and qualitative programs.Utilizing standard techniques and protocols, performs various study related tasks.May distribute work assignments to employees at lower classification levels and initiate new employees into routines.Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.Facilitate, coordinate and track the process of remuneration of study participants.Develop and update operating procedures as required.Make recommendations on the workflow improvements.Foster cooperative relationships with the full research team and other stakeholders to facilitate the flow of information and ideas, and ensure timely completion of projects.Recruit participants, manage participant issues throughout study as they may arise, and ensure contact between study personnel and participants is maintained throughout their involvement in the study.Oversee and manage logistic and organizational matters related to all participant sessions.Conduct research work by administering standardized questionnaires, qualitative interviews, focus groups, physical assessments, recording and/or coding data or observations, recruitment and participant scheduling.Conduct literature reviews and internet searches.Prepare and disseminate results including writing detailed research reports, drafting of ethics and grant applications as well as manuscripts for publication.Maintain and secure data and files in strict adherence to the protocols established in the relevant ethics application to and OSOT and UBC policies.Performs other related duties as required.Consequence of Error/JudgementFailure to adhere strictly to protocols approved by Ethics Boards, and to OSOT and UBC policies regarding security of data has the potential to cause harm to study participants, to negatively impact the reputation of the investigator(s), OSOT, and UBC, and to threaten ethics approval, access to funding sources, and access to study participants.Poor decisions could delay timely completion of projects, cause financial loss and be damaging to reputation of the PI, the Department Head, OSOT, the Faculty of Medicine, and the University of British Columbia. In addition, errors could cause misinterpretation of results in information disseminated to decision-makers, public, and academic audiences. The consequences could lead to inappropriate policy and decision-making related to health professions education to medical education.Decision Making/Accountability:Works within well defined guidelines and procedures, but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion; new or unusual problems are referred to supervisor.Supervision Received:Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar phases of duties and responsibilities; receives instructions during orientation and on subsequent new assignments or changes in procedures.Supervision Given

Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one\xe2\x80\x99s own

Masters preferred. Related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience and familiarity with standardized questionnaires and subject testing. Experience with qualitative interviewing. Training and/or education and experience in scientific technical writing an asset. Demonstrated and proven experience working with persons with disabilities. Strong conceptual skills and a demonstrated ability to design and carry out research projects. Ability to work with people of diverse needs and excellent skills in problem solving. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent substantive and copy editing skills. Familiarity with health sciences education and research initiatives. Familiarity with UBC policies and procedures would be an asset. Demonstrated computer skills and use of software including MS Office and SPSS. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to manage and move forward a diverse range of concurrent complex issues and tasks. Ability to work independently and in a team environment while exercising excellent judgment at all times.
