Position Summary



The Evaluation and Research Associate applies health research training and experience to drive and oversee dynamic research and evaluation projects, working closely with a team of dedicated professionals. The Evaluation and Research Associate will support projects that involve engaging, interacting and collaborating with healthcare providers, families and patients/clients in health service and community settings. The projects you will oversee play a crucial role in shaping policies and practices that drive recovery-oriented services, ultimately working towards the goal of achieving optimal mental and substance use health for every Albertan.


Responsibilities:



1. Project Coordination



Coordinate research and evaluation projects from initiation to completion including project management such as monitoring timelines, scheduling appointments, and managing budgets where applicable. Identifying changes to project plans and raising awareness to research leads to confirm and approve action. Ensure adherence to privacy, confidentiality, and security protocols for self and supervised staff in clinical and non-clinical settings. Respond to stakeholder queries for general information about research projects. Set up and manage project-related databases, documents and files. Consolidate project tracking and reporting within projects and present to research leads and CoRE leaders to inform decision-making. Engage and guide research teams to foster use of common project management and coordination practices in line with best practice and CoRE priorities.

2. Project Delivery Support



Supervise data entry and document management tasks and ensure quality. Maintain accurate patient records and assist with documentation management. Interact with research participants to facilitate their involvement in specific projects (e.g., providing general information, recruitment, consent, data collection (via surveys/interviews) and follow-up under direction of research leads. Travel to designated sites to coordinate studies, ensuring adherence to procedures and documentation standards. Contribute to analysis of evaluation/research data and research literature with guidance from research leads. Contribute to communication of research findings in clear language adjusted to the audience with guidance from research leads. Support grant proposal, ethics submission, report, and manuscript preparation with guidance from research leads.

3. CoRE Priorities Advancement



Participate in the strategic initiatives/developments of CoRE. Provide issue analysis, recommendations, and advice to guide executive decision-making and planning. Raise awareness to emerging issues of significance and participate in their resolution. Research and create briefings, draft policy and strategic documents, reports and other materials in response to requests from senior and executive leaders, news reports and release of major research studies. Contribute to evaluation/impact measurement of research programs and practices of the organization. Collaborate with all CoRE units and system stakeholders to ensure coordination and integration of activities in line with CoRE's priorities. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:



Master's degree in health sciences (e.g., health services research, population health or epidemiology), social sciences, behavioral sciences, or a related field. Three years' experience in health research or clinical research/evaluation role. Education and experience equivalencies may be considered. Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods/analysis. Experience with database and statistics software including internet-based is required; reference management software preferred. Experience in the development and co-authorship of research manuscripts and/or reports for publication preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Knowledge of mental health and substance use conditions, health and support services including the aims and objectives of the Alberta Recovery Model. Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders such as health care professionals and mental health and addiction patients and families. Knowledge of basic project management principles. Knowledge of key principles and practices of knowledge translation, ethical human participants research, and regulatory requirements. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Critical thinker with attention to detail while maintaining a big-picture perspective. Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to delegate tasks appropriately. Commitment to the values of rigor and objectivity in research. Discretion and tact; including consideration of the unique needs and potential vulnerabilities of participants and stakeholders. Recognition of the policy implications of research findings in context. Understanding of evaluation of research initiatives such as research impact frameworks preferred. Proficiency in MS Office and other business productivity or information management and technology applications. Supervisory and leadership skills. Willingness to travel to designated locations for study administration and field research.

Assets:



Experience in a mental health and addiction service or research setting. Experience with research measurement tool development and testing. Experience providing supervision or guidance to junior staff. Knowledge of and ability to interpret relevant legislation and policy (e.g., Mental Health Act , Mental Health Services Protection Act , Alberta Health Act , Health Information Act , Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy(FOIP)). Knowledge of literature review and environmental scan methods. Knowledge of key principles/practices of knowledge translation/mobilization. Financial knowledge to understand and work with project budgets.
