Information handled will relate to studies of diagnoses of major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and schizophreniform disorder as well as healthy volunteers.This position is based out of UBC Hospital and will also involve travel to our shared lab space at the Children's and Women's Hospital.Organizational Status
This position works as part of Dr. Mahesh Menons research team. The position reports to and is supervised by the Principal Investigator (Dr. Menon)Work Performed

  • Use SPSS and Excel to organize, code and enter data such as personal and background information, psychiatric interviews, cognitive tasks, intelligence measures, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) tasks.
  • Programming cognitive tasks for fMRI and EEG/MEG using Presentation.
  • Lab maintenance at the BCMHSUS site.
  • Create and update manuals detailing lab procedures.
  • Provide general training to new lab members in fMRI data processing and analysis, and preliminary SPSS analyses.
  • Provide general guidance/assistance for projects for students/employees at lower classification levels.
  • Onboard and Offboard lab members.
  • Coordinate lab students and volunteers, including Science Co-op and Work/Learn.
  • Coordinates clinical trials website entries.
  • Data collection for ongoing studies.
  • Organize lab meetings.
  • Manage room bookings for MCT sessions.
Consequence of Error/JudgementMust comply with patient confidentiality and security of information when handling participant information and data. Analysis errors may lead to scientific integrity being compromised.Moderate level of independent decision making. Tasks are assigned and the incumbent plans and schedules own work independently. Work is subject to review by Principal Investigator.Supervision ReceivedGeneral supervision is provided by the Principal Investigator and works with other research staff under Dr. Menon's supervision.Supervision Given

High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with ones own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing ones own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred Qualifications
  • High School graduation. Undergraduate degree in Psychology or a related discipline is preferred. Minimum of 2 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a research setting is preferred. Although training will be provided, education, training and/or experience in SPSS and neuroimaging is considered an asset. It is expected that the candidate possesses the following skills:
  • Proficiency with computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheet software (SPSS, Microsoft Word, Excel), and internet applications and tools.
  • Proficiency with neuroimaging analysis methods for DTI, fMRI, MEG, EEG using MATLAB, SPM, Fieldtrip, MriCron and internet applications.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials appropriately
  • Knowledge of scientific terminology and research methodology
  • Experience with data analysis and organization
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary research team
