Job Summary
Assists with everyday activities in the Memory and Imagination Laboratory run by Principal Investigator Dr. Daniela Palombo (Department of Psychology), including recruiting and booking participants, running experimental protocols, ordering lab supplies, or entering and coding data for a memory study in individuals receiving fertility treatment.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Principal Investigator.
Work Performed
Recruits subjects for studies by telephone and email, answers questions from potential participants, provides information and schedules participation times.
Runs experimental protocols through Qualtrics software. All protocols are set out and documented, and all instructions provided by Principal Investigator or designate.
Orders lab supplies following documented procedures.
Enter and code data in R or SPSS via directions created by the Principal Investigator.
Completes other tasks appropriate to the classification.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Much of the work is performed according to clear procedures and monitored; however, some individual initiative is required. Errors may result in loss of data, participants or reputation, and the slowing down of productivity in the lab, or ethics approval being delayed.
Supervision Received
Under general supervision, receiving instruction when new duties are assigned and when unusual problems arise. Tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator. All text produced by the employee will be reviewed by the Principal Investigator and by the Behavioural Ethics Review Board of UBC before it is made public. The Principal Investigator will meet with the employee regularly (every other week), and will engage in weekly Slack communication.
Supervision Given
May provide guidance to volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
BA in Psychology preferred or related field. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
