Research Assistant

Primary Purpose: We are looking for a dynamic and outgoing individual who would like to work with our team on a project called Decolonization of Digital Learning Spaces. The purpose of this project is to connect with peoples in Saskatchewan, Canada, and possibly around the world who are interested in the development of co-designed, autonomous, and sustainable community digital learning spaces based on solid methodological foundations that enhance the understanding of authentic community needs, situations, aspirations, experiences, and expectations.

Nature of Work: The focus of this position within the project is to work alongside Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) communities and identify appropriate research methods/approaches to help in increasing understanding of how we can design digital learning tools and digital learning spaces for the DHH community. For this reason, we are seeking someone fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and with some knowledge of an Indigenous Sign Language (ISL).

This position offers great opportunities for growth in communication skills, research methods, understanding of research, networking with DHH communities, and writing opportunities.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities: In the appointment of Research Assistant, your general duties and responsibilities may include any or all the following:

  • take the lead with some of the relationships with DHH communities;
  • bring a DHH understanding to assist with and advise on:
  • The successful candidate will report to and work with Marguerite Koole, Associate Professor, Educational Technology and Design; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Skills and Abilities)
  • Be fluent in ASL;
  • Have knowledge of an ISL;
  • Have in-depth knowledge of Deaf culture;
  • Have excellent communications skills (enjoy meeting new people)Be prepared/able to work flexibly across time zones;
  • Be a creative problem-solver.
