Position Overview

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 15 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for contacting potential participants to obtain consent, conducting telephone/zoom interviews (approx. 10-15 minutes per participant), and ensuring collected data is submitted in an accurate manner. Research assistants will be responsible for inputting collected data into a RedCap database

This position will also require some patient chart review (approximately 30 minutes a chart) through the Alberta health services electronic records.

This is a recurring part-time position with variable hours. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Assist in the collection, delivery, entry, verification, management, analysis, and reporting of data

Questionnaire administration

Ensure relevant research methodology is applied and proper handling of all research material is used including the confidentiality of any research participant

Assist in the day to day operations

Ability to demonstrate assigned tasks are done on own initiative in a timely fashion and that results are beneficial to the success of the research project

Contacts potential participants and administers consent over the phone

Conducts interviews and enters data

Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards

Contacting participants, conducting telephone/zoom interviews, and ensuring collected data that is submitted is accurate

Good relationships are established and maintained with all research project members and participants

Ensure relevant research methodology is applied and proper handling of all research material is used

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Post Secondary education required
  • Experience with working with the public is a strong asset
  • Experience and knowledge working in a post secondary institution is an asset
  • Knowledge of health and scientific terminology is a strong asset
  • Knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Word is a strong asset
  • Prior knowledge of RedCap database an asset
  • Health services research experience a strong asset
  • Prior knowledge of Alberta health services electronic records an asset
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, staff, and research team members
