  • Must have an interest in historical, literary research;
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
This is an excellent opportunity for students to acquire valuable training in paleography, archival research, and academic editing and publishing. Duties: Dr. Smid is working on a research project funded by SSHRC, analyzing honey bees as literary signifiers of climate change. As part of the project, Dr. Smid is preparing a new critical edition of a 17th-c text, The Parliament of Bees.
  • Complete an online course in early modern paleography;
  • Read and transcribe the handwritten manuscript of The Parliament of Bees;
  • Compile and summarize research on early modern literary bees;
  • Create or edit bibliographies, in-text citations, and/or footnotes;
  • Attend virtual and/or in-person meetings and other relevant duties as assigned.
