ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE





This role reports to Dr. Chris Giles and Dr. Alana Abramson department of Criminology.

SUMMARY





The Student Research Assistant will support the development of a Living Resource guide for use by faculty in Criminology. This guide will be designed to support faculty as they critically engage with the processes of decolonization and Indigenization. It provides a curated, evolving collection of resources that:

Critically interrogates the colonial foundations of the criminal legal system and the field of criminology. Highlights Indigenous perspectives, methodologies, and resistance to ongoing colonial practices. Creates pathways for more ethical, respectful, and transformative approaches to teaching, research, and justice practice. Supports reflexive learning by centering Indigenous voices, knowledges, and laws while also examining whiteness, privilege, and systemic racism in criminology. This position is up to 5 hours per week.


Key responsibilities include research and coalition of sources. This part-time position (up to 8hours per week) is offered on a four-month contract.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Coordination:Participate in regular planning meetings to assist with the organization and logistics of the living resource guide. Communication:Engage in timely and respectful verbal and written communication with the Indigenizing and Decolonizing Criminology Committee. Knowledge Documentation:Collect, organize and analyze sources related to the resource guide.

QUALIFICATIONS



Current KPU students, preferably with prior experience in academic or applied research and literature reviews either through coursework or involvement in
research projects
Excellent time management skills to meet project deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively. Proven ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and dealing with change, delays or unexpected events, keeping
constant sight of the overall objectives.
Strong interpersonal skills including teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving. Experience with Excel spreadsheets and Padlet are preferred Effective written and verbal communication skills to assist in writing the guide and communicating with committee members. Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and overcome obstacles. Ability to maintain poise and professionalism in all types of situations. Preference will be given to students who identify as Indigenous

SALARY INFORMATION



Anticipated hourly pay rate: $19.28
