The goal is to develop and implement effective tools to prevent ADRs in susceptible children and adults by predicting in whom the most serious reactions are most likely to occur.This incumbent is required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner, suited to the proper activities of the University of British Columbia and those governing the activities of the institution. Any procedures or data recorded must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered to. All activities involving participants are accountable to Dr. Bruce Carleton, Professor and Chair, Division of Translational Therapeutics, Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, UBC.Organizational Status
This position reports to Dr. Bruce Carleton. Additional guidance will be provided from other administrative and research-oriented staff including the Program Manager and Clinical Research Coordinators.Work PerformedIdentifies appropriate patients experiencing adverse drug reactions, by performing active monitoring in affiliation with clinicians and/or those who are referred by health care professionalsRecruits study participants and obtains informed consent for their participation in studiesConducts ECG measurements of study participants in breast feeding clinicCollects and processes samples (DNA saliva and or blood) and other data associated with enrolled participantsCompletes chart review of medical records: retrieves clinical data, including medication profile, adverse drug reactions, laboratory test results and supporting dataAccurately completes data entry into an electronic data base in a timely mannerMaintains up-to-date tracking associated with incoming samples (DNA saliva or blood) and patient recruitmentRequests medical charts from health records department & accesses other patient documents, test results, pharmacy profiles, electronic clinical documentation (where applicable)Performs quality assurance and quality control checks of clinical data collection, assist with grading of case reports and prepare data for analysis phase of studies.Maintains inventory and shipment of supplies to collaborating sites across CanadaMaintains filing of patient records (i.e., informed consent forms, shipping logs, etc.)Acts as a liaison with health care teams at BC Children\'s HospitalCarries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of a position in this classificationConsequence of Error/Judgement
This position entails a high level of responsibility. Requires planning and prioritization of duties. Inability to meet deadlines would negatively impact the program\xe2\x80\x99s efficiency and its reputation. Errors in administrative duties may have a financial impact on the program. This position works with a large number of people, and poor communication may impact negatively on the program\xe2\x80\x99s reputation and productivity.Supervision Received

It is expected that the RA will demonstrate the ability to work independently once training has been successfully completed. This individual will be expected to manage assignments as appropriate to the functions of the program, working independently as well as working within a team.Minimum Qualifications

Experience with medical chart review and patient record systems is essential. Demonstrated knowledge experience in pediatric medicine, oncology or genetics desirable. Familiarity and experience in working with database management programs. Moderate to high degree of computer literacy. Strong knowledge of scientific and medical terminology. Attentive to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately. Excellent interpersonal skills. A high degree of motivation, enthusiasm and initiative to learn new skills. Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to exercise initiative and maintain confidentiality.
