Job Summary
Reporting to the Clinical Research Scientist, the Research Assistant I (RA I) will assist with various tasks relating to the whole genome sequencing (WGS) laboratory that provides service for pathogen surveillance. The RA I will be involved in the evaluating and implementing of new wet lab equipment and techniques and assist with development of various standard operating procedures and documentation. The RA I will assist with the utilization of various informatics tools used by the lab to facilitate result reporting. The Research Assistant I will support and assist senior staff with various lab tasks related to WGS. This could include document preparation, inventory control and monitoring, and generation of reports. The RA I may also be required to support senior staff with various research topics as needed.

Job Qualifications
Education
Undergraduate degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology is required.
Completion of a master\'s degree in a related field is an asset.

Experience
Minimum one year of experience within the last three years working in a research setting including data entry and laboratory processing is required.
Experience and knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, purification and amplification is required.
Previous experience in library preparation and WGS is an asset.
Previous experience using bioinformatic/informatic tools is an asset.
