Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
The University of Regina\xe2\x80\x99s Faculty of Social Work is seeking a Research Assistant for a casual employment position (5-10 hours per week) for work with Dr. Andrew Eaton (Assistant Professor) and Shiny Mary Varghese (Executive Director, APSS). This role will involve work on a community-based research study testing pop-up harm reduction interventions for people who use drugs in Regina. The research assistant will assist with: a) liaising with local organizations to determine locations for Naloxone trainings and peer support groups, based off needle prevalence map data; b) survey data collection with research participants; and c) data entry and cleaning in Qualtrics survey software. Data analysis, knowledge mobilization, and other research tasks may be available.

Responsibilities

  • Adhering to a research ethics protocol for a community-based harm reduction study.
  • Assisting with the identification of and communication with local host sites for harm reduction intervention.
  • Obtaining informed consent from research participants.
  • Collecting data from participants at pop-up intervention sites.
  • Entering data into Qualtrics survey database.
  • Cleaning data to prepare for analysis.


Position Requirements
  • Graduate or upper-year undergraduate student in social work, nursing, psychology, or a related field.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to issues faced by people who use injection drugs, including people who are street-involved.
  • Proficiency in obtaining informed consent and conducting data collection.
  • Alignment with a substance use harm reduction perspective.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency at Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Work experience in harm reduction an asset, but not required.
