Research Assistant, Community Accountability For Police Violence

This posting will be used to hire 2 positions



Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.


Position Overview:





This position will involve connecting with community partners, helping to organize a community-based research event, conducting literature reviews, and report-writing.


Duties:




Prepare Equipment and Materials for Research + help to organize community-based research gathering for stakeholders involved in advocating for victims of police violence
Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports and presentations + assist in report writing and writing public-facing materials related to police accountability processes
Prepare literature review + related to trauma-informed research about police and other forms of state-violence
Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis and interpretation + help to collate and organize existing qualitative data about community policing, community-based alternatives to policing, and community-based police accountability mechanisms
Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities + collect and submit receipts and fill out paperwork related to administering the research grant

Qualifications:




Some university preferred, or other demonstration of capacity to conduct literature reviews of academic literature. Experience with and community connections in the area of police accountability in Winnipeg preferred. Some knowledge of existing police accountability mechanisms in Winnipeg preferred.

Condition(s) of Employment:




Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.



The period of work will be from

July 14, 2025 - September 30, 2025

and the estimated total hours of work will be

50-100 hours

.
